Description
The days went past quickly. Working with the repairs on the Normandy kept her busy enough that she couldn’t wallow in her loss, although it never really left her mind. Steve had proven to be exactly the company she needed. He was collected, polite and funny in his own way, and rather gentlemanly with her, and he never tried to comfort her or bring up Shepard on purpose when talking to her. And neither did he try to avoid talking about the Commander, if it was the natural course of the conversation. But the way she sometimes caught him looking at her told her everything she needed to know. There was understanding and compassion in his gaze, and she had come to realise it wasn’t exactly a one-way street. She provided, initially unbeknownst to herself, the same kind of silent support that he gave her. They were treading the same mire, and in him she had gained an unexpected but welcome friend.

I always liked the character of Steve Cortez. I can completely see him being there for Liara like this. Nice, imaginative work.
